We run an After School Club 3 days a week to meet the needs of our Parents and Carers. This is open to all pupils. We also run a holiday club during the Summer holidays and at Easter.
Additionally sports clubs are offered at various points throughout the school year.
We offer a range of recreational visits during the year, some of which are sponsored by local community and charitable groups. We also offer short stay residential visits for selected pupils which offer a range of experiences aimed at confidence building, personal and social development, independent living and, of course, fun.
Working in partnership with the Mary Curtis Riding Stable, we offer our pupils the opportunity to visit their stables and to spend time with their horses. Ivel Valley School recognises the excellent therapeutic qualities of these visits; both the physical and psychological benefits are of equal importance to students. Furthermore, we value the importance of developing a relationship and sense of trust between the pupil and a horse, which can be highly rewarding and have a profound effect on building self- confidence.
Our vision is to ensure that those pupils who are identified by riding staff as able, are given the opportunity to work towards receiving certification in taught skills up to Grade 2.
Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century. It is the national standard cycling training scheme, which is endorsed by RoSPA, the Department for Transport, Road Safety GB and most major cycling organisations.
To be safe on our roads cyclists need the skills to cycle on all types of routes and in all types of traffic conditions. Bikeability sets out to give pupils these necessary skills. In Central Bedfordshire, Bikeability is delivered in schools by qualified instructors to young cyclists who have reached the age of 10+.
Working in partnership with Sports Partnership our vision is to ensure that as many of our pupils as possible have the opportunity to experience riding a bike, even if they are complete beginners. Throughout their school life, pupils are given regular access to the use of bicycles in the school playground under adult supervision. This ensures skills are reinforced and practiced, setting the scene for a lifetime skill.
Those pupils identified by qualified instructors as being able, will take part in Bikeability training. This will be a rolling programme throughout their time at Ivel Valley School, aiming for certification when they have achieved the level of skill required.
Our aim is to develop our pupils to become responsible road users. We promote safety, provide road worthy bicycles which are regularly checked and serviced and ensure that riders wear helmets when completing training.
